About Us

From Sansad to Sangha

In a small para of Kolkata, where morning light filters gently through narrow lanes, where the aroma of tea mingles with laughter in the evening air — a dream was born. That dream has a name: Satin Sen Sansad.

It was 1965. The neighbourhood was smaller then, quieter, with fewer faces. But the hearts were immense. A handful of young men sat together one evening and made a quiet pact — not just to live for themselves, but to live for each other. Not just to bear their own sorrows, but to share the joys and griefs of every soul in the para. From that simple, powerful resolve grew what we know today as Satin Sen Sansad — our club, our home, our family.

Satin Sen is more than a name on a signboard. It is an ideal. A reminder of a man who believed, with his whole being, that human beings are at their finest when they stand beside one another. We carry that belief in everything we do.

The years have passed. The para has grown. Faces have changed. But the promise of this Sangha has never wavered.

When the dhaak beats during Durga Puja and rows of lamps flicker before the goddess, and the entire para gathers as one — that moment of collective joy, of belonging, is the greatest reward we know. When a child's eyes go wide with wonder at the fireworks on Kali Puja night, and an old man smiles quietly at the sight, remembering his own childhood — we know why we work through the entire year for just these moments.

But our story is not only one of celebration.

There was a year when a family in our para fell suddenly into hardship. The father fell ill, and the household began to tremble. That evening, members of Satin Sen Sansad came to their door — one carrying medicine, one with a pot of home-cooked food, one simply sitting quietly beside them through the night. The father later said, with a voice full of emotion, "That night I understood — a para is not just the house next door. A para is family."

On the morning of our blood donation camp, when a long line forms before sunrise, when an eighteen-year-old boy comes forward to donate blood for the very first time, trembling slightly with nerves — and a senior member quietly takes his hand and says, "Don't be afraid, son. This blood will save a life" — that moment cannot be described in words. It can only be felt.

When we plant a sapling in the earth on our tree plantation day, we know this tree will grow tall long after we are gone. We know its shade will fall on children not yet born. And we plant it anyway — because love, real love, always thinks of those who come after us.

When an elderly mother from our para comes to our health check-up camp, and the doctor looks up from his instruments and says, "Good that you came in time — you'll be fine" — and her eyes fill with quiet tears of relief — that moment is why we hold these camps. Not for recognition. For her.

When the little ones in our playschool trace their first letters with small, uncertain fingers, when they hold a crayon for the very first time and drag it across paper in pure, fearless colour — in that moment we understand that we are not merely running a club. We are building the future, one small hand at a time.

And on our picnic days, when everyone sits together on the grass, sharing food from the same spread, when laughter erases every difference of age and standing and background — in those hours, we are not a club. We are simply human beings, grateful to be alive together.

Over the decades, members have come and gone. Some have left us forever, taking with them voices we still hear in our memories. But they did not leave empty-handed — they left behind something no time can take: the love and care they poured into this Sangha, year after year. Their hands built what our hands now hold. We carry them forward in everything we do.

Today, Satin Sen Sansad is not merely an organisation. It is a feeling. It is the warmth that keeps a light burning at someone's door on a cold night. It is the courage that refuses to let anyone face hardship alone. It is the joy that, on the day of the festival, makes the whole para feel like one beating heart.

We believe this with everything we are: when people stand together, no sorrow is too heavy, and no happiness is incomplete.

Carrying Satin Sen's dream in our hearts — we are still one. We always will be.

This is our story. This is our promise.
